Introduction

Hi, my name is Charlene, and art has always been a part of my life ever since I was a young child. I remember attending art classes at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts when I was in primary school, as well as vandalising my school desk with doodles. At some point my entire desk was covered in my drawings and when I ran out of space, I'd just rub some of it off and draw over. Of course, my textbooks and school shoes were not spared...

During my 'O' & 'A' levels, I was in the General Art Programme and specialised in fashion design for both. I am especially proud of my 'A' level final year project because I had worked hard on it and had enjoyed it thoroughly. I think it was during this period that I realised how much I loved fashion illustration.

After my 'A' levels, I went on to do a degree in Biology at the National University of Singapore. During this time, I went through an art/design hiatus, but once I was done with that, I went on to study Communication Design at LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts. That was probably the best 3 yrs of my education life...it was no doubt challenging, but at least I was doing something much closer to my heart than microbiology, genetics, and biochemistry.

I graduated from Lasalle in April of 2006, and in June started working at this design house that specialises in designing annual reports. I definitely learned a lot there, but it wasn't the place for me and I was out of there after 5 months. I then spent the next 1 yr freelancing. I not only worked from home, but had the opportunity to work freelance in design cos. such as ZZO Creative, Caffeine Creative and Imaginary Friends Studios (the most recent). After working at IFS for 5 days, I actually expressed my interest in working there full-time, and they agreed to have a look at my port folio. SO now...my first day of work as an Imaginary Friend starts on 3 Dec. I'm really excited about what lies ahead for me at IFS, as it's a really fantastic studio with great people. I look forward to growing even more as a graphic designer and person at my new co. =)
