Faith in Fashion

A session by Josie and Don about the religious items we wear.

Amplify Friday session for 9 Oct 2009. With "Queen" (2 Oct) and "Faith in Fashion" (9 Oct), I just felt strongly about doing my own photography for the design, so that it could be something more relevant and I could have better control over. It also felt like a good change from what I've been normally doing (vector or using Darren's illustrations).

I honestly started off with a bit of a designer's block. Although I knew I wanted to use photography, I just couldn't get my initial idea to work or feel right. At some point I even decided to revert back to just using graphics. However, that didn't feel right after awhile either, so I brought my focus back to photography. In the end, I simply made use of photography the way I would at work with food, and it resulted in something new for my ministry designing.

October 2009 Rolls Promotion!

Hey Hey!! Here's our advertisement for the month of October! The challenge for me this time was to make a plain looking swiss roll look chic. I think I did a decent enough job, hahaha...! Praise God for all those cook books available at the supermarket near my home. I used them as a source of inspiration and reference for my own work. I noticed that a lot of photographers and designers get away with really simple photography. No need for extra frills. Sometimes just details in the tablecloth used or wood surface is enough.

Rescued by Love, June 2009

This is a rather late entry because I have severely neglected this blog, especially after starting a Deviant Art account.

Some updates on the Rescued by Love 21st Amp YISS June 2009:
In summary, I would have to say that the design was a success! We received a lot of compliments and people loved the mixing of traditional style painting combined with modern graphics. From start to finish, the Lord was with us, inspiring us with the message He wanted expressed through the art and He was truly glorified! It was all about God, for God and by God! Praise Him!

Design for Macau Registration Guide & other collaterals

I'm in the midst of designing a Macau registration guide cover. Once this is done, it will be adapted onto all the other collateral. I've just submitted the first design proposal, however the client felt it too corporate, which is true. I had not intended it to be so corporate, but somehow as I was inspired by images of Macau that I saw, somehow my ideas took a very corporate direction. Although it is not really what the client wanted, I still like what I did and have decided to upload it here anyway, just because I take pride in what I do. I will be amending it to suit the client's needs and will be updating this space as I progress.

(the final design wasn't really to my liking so I will not be featuring it here. The client was satisfied with it though and I got paid...so all is good I suppose...)

Looking back on 2008

I think that of all the posters I did for Emicakes in 2008, this would be my favourite one...the Ultimate Brownie Addiction poster!! This is because I got to use my favourite colour combination, type of font, and floral ornaments. Totally YUMMY!!

For the purpose of consistency, this design is based on a previous freelance designer's work, which we used as a template for the whole of 2008. However, the type, image, colour choice, blending, layout, touch-ups and floral ornaments are additions/done by me.

My favourite Brochure would have to be my Oriental Cake Design one:
